We are looking for an experienced Adviser to support our work to ensure human rights are central to the energy transition and SDG 7, including a regional focus on Africa and Latin America.

WORKING AREAS

• Undertake analyses and develop tools and guidance to promote the effective implementation of human rights standards in the context of the energy transition
• Work with state institutions and other stakeholders in the African and Latin America countries where the Danish Institute for Human Rights is operating to support the implementation of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights with a focus on the energy transition
• Collaborate with national human rights institutions to strengthen their capacity to act individually and collectively to promote and protect human rights in relation to renewable energy projects and the energy transition
• Contribute to the Department’ work on human rights and impact assessment
• Engage at regional and global level with businesses, investors, inter-governmental organisations and others to advance respect for human rights in global value chains of the renewable energy sector & the energy transition
• Support development of strategic & programmatic approaches and fundraising in relation to the energy transition and human rights

QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated knowledge on the intersection of human rights and the energy transition and knowledge about natural resources management
• In-depth knowledge of international human rights law and systems and demonstrated expertise in issues related to the intersections of human rights and the global economy as well as human rights and environmental law
• Substantial experience of working nationally in sub-Saharan African countries and/or Latin American countries as well as regionally/internationally to advance human rights in the context of business activities, in particular in relation to sectors such as extractive industry and renewable energy.
• Comfortable in engaging with a variety of stakeholders at different levels and good at building relationships
• Experience in project management and implementation and understanding of administrative requirements and procedures
• Master’s degree in International Human Rights Law, Environmental Law or Management, Sustainable Development, Political Science, International Relations or other relevant areas
• Fluent in English and Spanish
• Proficiency French or Danish is an asset.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The position is a permanent position, based in Copenhagen.

The position is fulltime, weekly 37 hours. The salary and other conditions will be determined in accordance with the Danish Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations with the possibility to negotiate individual supplements.
