An organized, self-motivated, team player with leadership skills and a strong interest in supply chain sustainability.

Overview

As Senior Commodity Trade Specialist, you are heading up IDH’s thought-leadership and practice on linking sustainable commodity production in Asia, Africa and Latin-America to demand in consuming countries in Europe to increase market uptake.

You drive a strategic agenda which engages partners and stakeholders towards next-stage supply chain solutions in market transformation: creating physical links between producing regions and manufacturers/retail in Europe as well as scale imported volumes of sustainably produced agri/forestry commodities.

IDH has the ambition to help achieve the following targets:
1) 100% of imported palm oil into Europe is produced sustainably by the end of 2020;

2) At least 50 to 60% of imported soy into Europe is produced responsibly by the end of 2020;

3) 100% of pulp & paper imported into Europe is produced sustainably by the end of 2020;
4) 50% of tropical timber imported into Europe is produced sustainably by the end of 2020;

To this end you support the IDH landscape and commodity program teams with strategic knowledge, business-development (pipeline) and program implementation to reach the targets.

Based out of Utrecht, you are part of the global landscape team, reporting directly into the Director Landscapes & Deforestation Commodities. The position is a full-time position.

IDH is looking for an organized, self-motivated, team player with leadership skills and a strong interest in supply chain sustainability.  You are both analytical and practical, able to work independently and learn fast. Working in a results-oriented, flexible and hands-on manner, you take control of your targets.

Key responsibilities
1. Accountability for the development of ‘physical’ supply chains between producing regions (landscapes) and manufactures/retailers in Europe with deforestation commitments;

2. Accountability to develop project/investment pipeline of traders to implement deforestation commitments with farmers and producers;

3. Accountability to reach the targeted market volumes in Europe, as stated above, in discussions with traders and other value chain partners in the context of the commodities of soy, palm oil and tropical timber/pulp & paper.
